| The Managing Director of APP Timber, Michael
Hermens, has been involved in the Asian timber industry for almost 25
years. His educational back-ground is an university degree in civil engineering
with specialisation in public housing. He went to work in Saudi Arabia
in 1982 after completion of his university degree in The Netherlands and
immigrated to Singapore in 1987 where he started his career in the Asian
timber industry. Initially specialised in the design and manufacturing
of kiln drying equipment (as founder of IMS Kiln Drying Pte. Ltd.) he
recognised that South East Asia would require to import sawn timber to
satisfy the fast growing industry. As such he started Asia Panel Products
Sdn. Bhd. which later was renamed "APP Timber" and became THE
pioneer in promoting foreign timber to SE Asia.
APP Timber (and the affiliated companies) employ a team of senior managers
who have 15 to 20 years experience in the woodworking industry. The company’s
headquarters (HQ) are in Kuala Lumpur and we have marketing operations
in Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, China and Australia and sourcing
offices in Africa, Australia, Europe and the USA.
APP Timber has traditionally been selling timber & veneers and providing
expertise to the Asian manufacturers. These customers are mainly producing
furniture, flooring, doors and other products which are predominantly
exported to the USA, Europe and Japan. This type of business, called “industrial
sales”, accounts for a large part our business. The other
part is what we call “domestic sales” which
means those products which are used in the domestic building industry
and will remain in the country.
We are proud that our customers value the products and services provided
by our company. Our reputation is growing world-wide as a “loyal
and dedicated” company looking after our customers and
supplying partners. This does not mean that we sit still and enjoy the
business as it is – APP Timber is poised for growth and we have
firm plans in place not just to face the future but also to fully engage
and hopefully shape the future with regard to promoting the increased
use of timber related products.
